AFFIRMING AN INCLUSIVE PRIESTHOOD, ROOTED IN A REFORMED AND RENEWED CHURCH

About CORPUS U.S.A.

CORPUS is a faith community rooted in a strong Eucharistic commitment, promoting an expanded and renewed priesthood of married and single men and women in the Catholic Church. When something begins well, its origins become its destiny. This is often the way Semitic culture and the Scripture present people and institutions to us. The origins of Jesus in the Spirit become the destiny of Christ in the Spirit. On a lesser plane, this dynamic is operative in CORPUS.

CORPUS , celebrating forty-two years of service to the people of God, is one of the oldest reform groups in the Catholic Church, and is active in reform movements both in the U.S. and abroad. We are committed to working for a renewed priesthood of married and single men and women dedicated to serving God through the Community of Believers.

CORPUS began well in Chicago in 1974 with a three - fold agenda: solidarity, healing and witness. Solidarity overcame the isolation and alienation we experience when we are marginalized from something we value deeply. Healing gave a sense of worth and dignity to our choices for love and ministry. Witness offered the Catholic community the testimony of our lives, our families, and our service.

In 1988, we became very public with our work. We moved into annual conferences, constitutional and collegial structures, elections, regions, international connections, a larger reform focus. Nonetheless, solidarity, healing, and witness remained the center of our concern and activity. In all of this, CORPUS seeks to become a spiritual and sacramental experience for God's People and Ministers.

In the light of our past and in the dream of our future, we welcome you to our web site in the name of our board and our members.
