Charles Joseph Koerber (83) "Charlie" of Haymarket, Virginia passed peacefully at home on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Gay; son, Chuck; daughter-in-law, Kim; grandchildren, Ella and Collin; brother, Jim and many loving friends. Charlie received his Doctor of Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Charlie had an exceptional and diverse career as a dean and professor of theology, director of drug and alcohol treatment centers, senior executive within the Department of Veterans Affairs, and senior advisor to the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs. Everyone who knew Charlie will miss his warm and generous spirit, his quick wit, and his tremendous capacity to love. Friends may call at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia, on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 5 pm to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Virginia on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at noon. Interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, www.ccda.net or the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Charles left the active priesthood and married Gay 1973.  He joined CORPUS in 1989.
