Herbert was born on February 13, 1932. He studied in the Jesuit Seminary and was ordained a Jesuit in 1963. He left the active ministry in 1974 and married Eleanor Murphy in 1981. he was a longtime member of WEORC and often assisted others who left the active ministry in finding employment. Below is a synopsis of his work after leaving the active priesthood.
HERBERT HEZEL, PHD
Herb was an Associate with Lee Hecht Harrison's Melville, New York office focusing on professional service delivery and developing client relationships.
Before joining LHH, Herb was Senior Vice President with an outplacement firm where he was instrumental in growing the company to a multi-state, national firm. In 1991 he designed and directed a Career Continuation Program for dislocated defense industry workers on Long Island under the sponsorship of the Long Island Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO) and the United Way.
Herb's earlier career in education as a Jesuit included being the principal of a 1000+ all boys high school in the Philippines, supervisor of a nine-high school system and executive director of a 22-school system of universities, colleges and high schools. He was also Chairman of the Superintendents Commission of the Catholic Education Association and President/Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
Herb was awarded membership in Phi Delta Kappa, received a distinguished service award from PAASCU, and holds a NYS Certificate as School District Administrator. He holds Master's degrees in Philosophy (Berchmans College), Theology and Education (Boston College), and a PhD from Santo Tomas (Manila, Philippines) with credits from Stamford University.
