James Andrew Lord, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 in Brewster, MA surrounded by his family. He was born in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late James A. and Mary F. (Hayes) Lord. He attended Crosby High School, Waterbury, CT before graduating from Mount St. Mary’s College and Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD in 1947. That same year, he was ordained into the priesthood in the Hartford Archdiocese. He served for 25 years in 5 parishes, the most recent being Sacred Heart Church in Hartford. In 1972 he married Maryann O’Brien, formerly Sr. Eleanor Marie, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

Jim was a teacher at the medium security prison in Enfield, CT before retiring in 1993. He served as chaplain at Mercy Hospital for several years and was a Eucharistic Minister and RCIA teacher for St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow, MA. He was an active member of the Voice of the Faithful, an organization formed in response to the clergy scandal. Jim loved tennis and was involved in social activism. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George R. Lord.

James is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maryann (O’Brien) Lord of East Longmeadow, MA; his sons, James O. Lord and his wife, Melanie and Michael A. Lord and his wife, Amber, all of Truro, MA; his “daughter” Kelly Cavanaugh of Harwich Port, MA; his grandchildren, Delilah and Bennett Lord; his brothers, Rev. Robert J. Lord of Milford, CT and Dr. Jerome E. Lord of Florida; his sisters, Mary E. Dooley of Waterbury, CT, Patricia O’Hara of New City, NY and Helen E. Lord of Southbury, CT; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours for James will be held on Friday, January 8th from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. A funeral will be held on Saturday, January 9th beginning at the funeral home at 8:45AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA.
