George Malzone, 70, a former Roman Catholic priest who later in life managed investment properties and helped found a drug rehabilitation program, died of lung cancer Feb. 9, 2003 at his home in Washington.
Mr. Malzone was born in Detroit and came to the Washington area as a high school senior, graduating from St. Anthony's High School in Washington. He studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Seminary and attended the North American College in Rome.
In 1958, he was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Washington and served at St. Ann's, Nativity and Mary Queen of Peace parishes in Washington. He left the priesthood in 1968 and worked for a short period as an administrator at the Federal Trade Commission.
Later, he managed personal real estate and other investment properties in the Washington area, helped found RAP, a drug rehabilitation program, and was a founder and the first treasurer of Hospice Care of the District of Columbia.
He traveled extensively with his wife, Mary Catherine Kilday Malzone, and for periods they lived in Paris and Rome. She died in 1999.
Survivors include a sister, Sister Francine Malzone of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe, Mich., and a brother, F. Richard Malzone of Ocean Pines, Md. MAY HE REST IN PEACE
