Raynham, MA

Marie P. O'Brien, 66, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and teacher, died suddenly Monday evening at her home in Raynham, MA. She was the wife of 33 years of Stuart O'Brien. Education and faith were central themes in Mrs. O'Brien's life. Mrs. O'Brien attended Cathedral High School in Boston before earning a degree at Regis College. Marie went on to receive her Masters Degree in Religious Education from Boston College and continued to take professional enrichment courses throughout her career. She served as a Sister of Saint Joseph for 15 years in the Archdiocese of Boston. A teacher with a passion for languages and reading, Mrs. O'Brien taught in several Massachusetts school systems over five decades. Though she retired in 1997 after spending the final 26 years of her career at Middleboro High School, she never stopped teaching.
Even in retirement, Mrs. O'Brien was very active in church reform and social justice issues. She also enjoyed spending time at her second home on Old Silver Beach Cape Cod with the love of her life, Stuart.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. O'Brien leaves two sons Daniel, 27, of Raynham and Stuart "Tuck", 29, of Boston. In addition, Mrs. O' Brien leaves her mother Enes V. (Grelotti) Lynch of Stoughton, brother Paul J. Lynch of Arlington, and sisters Kathleen E. Traficanti of Easton, Geraldine A. McCarthy of Braintree, and Maureen T. Sylvia of Fairhaven. Marie's life was dedicated to others. There was never a time she was not there to lend a helping hand or to offer much needed advice. She touched the life of everyone who knew her.
