Gerald Willis Sylvester Jon Boniface Rosecrants, 79, of Norman died Saturday, Feb. 17, in Oklahoma City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church with inurnment at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
He was born June 20, 1927, in Cordell, to John Paul and May (Tharrington) Rosecrants. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. Mr. Rosecrants obtained a master’s degree from Central State University, his bachelor’s degree was earned at the University of Oklahoma and he remained an avid OU fan. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1957 and served several parishes until 1973. He then worked for the state of Oklahoma as a vocational rehabilitation counselor until his retirement in 1994. After retirement from the state he worked as a medical radiology transcriber for Norman Regional Hospital.
Mr. Rosecrants was a staunch Democrat and the Democratic representative for the election board for his precinct. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of the Golden Agers of St. Joseph’s. He was a member and reader at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
He is survived by son David B. Rosecrants; son Jacob A. Rosecrants; daughter Mary Beth Rosecrants; sister Joyce J. King; niece and nephew Teresa Sherman and Paul G. Sherman; great-nieces Monica and Laura Wright; and former wife and mother of his children Frances Fiedler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Rosecrants and May T. Warner, and brother-in-law Claude S. King.
