CASHEN, Joseph Harold
1931 – 2016
Suddenly, on Sunday, October 10, 2016, at the age of 85.
Loving husband of Yvonne Babinéau for 44 years.
Devoted father of Marc (Pamela), of Toronto, and cherished grandfather of Milo.
Beloved brother of Joyce, Elizabeth Mott, Robert, David, and Eric.
Son of the late Joseph Cashen and late Marie Dockrill.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Born in Halifax, NS, Joseph was an avid athlete. He loved to sail and golf. During university, he played hockey for St. Mary’s. He graduated from St. Mary’s University (Halifax, NS), to go on to attend St. Patrick’s University, the University of Ottawa, and then to Yale University. He earned a master’s degree in Theology and Psychology. He was ordained a priest for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. His ministry began in St. Joseph’s Parish, in Ottawa, followed by assignments to Annunciation Parish, in Edmonton, AB, and then missionary work in Peru. Joseph worked as Director of Assessment center for children’s aid; at CRDC; Director of services for Easter Seals, Human Resources at CIBC in Toronto, and as a consultant for Right Associates. During his retirement, Joseph continued providing support and consultations to those in need. As a Rotarian in Toronto, he helped organize the delivery of desperately needed medical supplies and equipment to a mental hospital in Panama. His generosity was boundless.

A Mass in Memory to Celebrate Joe's life will take place at St. Joseph’s Church (174 Wilbrod St., Ottawa) on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1:00pm.
