Robert Duane Buckland, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Marie Buckland of Tallahassee. Services will be held later. A native of Rochester, N.Y., he moved to Tallahassee in April 2003 from Port St. Lucie. A former priest in the Roman Catholic Church, he received his psychology and theology degrees from St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry in Rochester. Always interested in the causes of migrant workers, he was a former counselor with Project Independence for the Florida Department of Labor and also the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. He was also a former regional administrator for those departments in southeast Florida. He was a collector of items of various interest and was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and camping, particularly in the Western states. Other survivors include two sons, Steven K. Updike of Tallahassee and Paul Scott Updike (and wife Susan) of Churchville, N.Y.; a sister, S ister Marena of the Sisters of Mercy in Rochester; two grandchildren, Paula Updike and Samuel Vincent Updike, both of Churchville; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Buckland of Rochester.
