Basil WREN
WREN, Patrick Basil 1935 - 2017 On October 11, 2017 at 9:30 p.m. in his 83rd year, Basil passed peacefully in hospital in Barcelona. Born in Douglas, Ontario son of Lennox Wren and Mary Florence McGaghran. Predeceased by his wife, Katherine Kelly in 2008. Survived by son Kelly; daughters Krista (Jonathon Blakely) and Kathleen (Jonathan Hyatt), granddaughter Ava Handley, grandsons Spencer, Anderson and Hayden Hyatt; and Logan Blakely. Survived by siblings, Kevin (late Catherine), Mary Schimmens (late Mervin), Claire Terre (Adolphe), Arnold (late Willis), Kaireen Knott (late Gary). Predeceased by Joseph (late Vicky), Mark (Theresa), James (late Ruth), John (Evelyn). After high school he studied with the Oblate father's and was ordained a transitory Deacon before leaving in 1963 for a secular life.
Basil was a member of the faculty at the Kemptville Agricultural College for 30 years from 1967-1994. A man of great faith Basil's devotion to serving the poor and his sense of community was profoundly shown through his work at Waupoos, St. Joe's, Our Lady of Fatima and his other various community involvements including the Ottawa Cursillo Community where he made the 1st Cursillo in 1966. Dad, you will be forever missed and loved, your children and grandchildren will continue to live by your example. Basil Wren, the man the myth the legend! Visitation will be at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Thursday, October 26 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a funeral Eucharist at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Fatima, reception to follow in the hall, please bring your favorite Basil jokes, stories and memories to be shared at the reception. Internment with his wife Kathy at Notre Dame cemetery at a later date. If desired, a non perishable item of food for the Women's Center or the Food table at St. Joseph's Church would be appreciated to remember those who are not as fortunate as most.
