REST IN PEACE

JOHN JAMES MCNAMARA, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2008 at the V.A. Hospital. He was born March 22, 1927 in New Orleans, LA and was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and John McNamara. John studied Pharmacy at Loyola University, served in the Navy in San Diego, CA and Pensacola, FL, studied at the Diocesan Seminary, St. Benedict's Abbey, Covington, LA and completed his Theology and Philosophy studies at Notre Dame Seminary where he was awarded his B.A. and M.A. in History. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1954 and went on to serve as Associate Pastor at Donaldsonville, LA, Sacred Heart Parish, Baton Rouge, Asst. Diocesan Director of Youth, Baton Rouge, Chaplain, Angola State Penitentiary, LA before becoming the founding pastor of St. Louis King Of France Parish, Baton Rouge, LA. John always loved his parishioners and everyone who knew him loved him for his devotion, friendliness and kind attitude. Due to ill health John later had to leave parish ministry and went on to San Francisco to counsel troubled juveniles and in 1979 relocated to Houston, TX where he worked for the St. Joseph's Hospital Pharmacy for many years. John is survived by his brother, Thomas C. McNamara and wife Pam of Pennsylvania, his sister, Marion Hill and Husband, Gillis of Louisiana, his brother Larry and wife Donna of Louisiana, and sister Kathleen and husband, Tom of Texas. He is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews and twenty eight great-nieces and nephews. The family extends great thanks to Dr. John Gallagher and the wonderful Staff and residents of St. Dominic's Village, where John lived for the last seven years. Also, grateful thanks to the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses in the C.C.U. of the V.A. Hospital and to his many dear friends, especially Toby Newman, L.C.S.W and Leon Guitry, his suite mate. The family will receive friends Friday, March 14, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. at St. Dominic Center Warren Chapel, 2401 E. Holcombe, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 10:00 A.M at St. Dominic Center Warren Chapel. Interment will be on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make your contributions to St. Dominic's Village, 2401 East Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77021.

John joined CORPUS in 1979.
