Quesnell, Quentin

Quentin Quesnell, 85, of 10 Gamelin St., and formerly of Northampton,MA passed away November 29th at Mary's Meadow in Holyoke, MA. Born in Milwaukee, WI February 27, 1927, Quentin was the son of the late Carl Quesnell who passed away in 1954 and Agnes (Bleskachek) Quesnell who passed away in 1974. He earned a Masters Degree in Philosophy and a STL in Theology from St. Louis University. He later did studies on Oriental languages and the Bible in Vienna, Paris, Jerusalem and Rome. Quentin received a Doctorate in Sacred Scriptures from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He was a Theology Professor at Marquette University from 1966-1972 all the while being a member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Quentin later taught at Smith College and was head of the Department of Religion from 1975-1997 and was awarded the Roe Straut Professor in Humanities in 1988 also named Roe Straut Professor Emeritus in 1997. He is also an author of several books including The Mind of Mark, This Good News, and The Authority for the Authority to name a few. Quentin's wife, Jean H. (Higgins) Quesnell, whom he married in 1973, passed away in 2010. He is survived by his brothers John Quesnell of Hartford, WI and Carl Quesnell and his wife Helen of Port Saint Lucie, FL, his sister-in-law June (Kapp) Quesnell, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Quesnell his sister Jacqueline Owens and his sister-in-law Mary "Miki" Quesnell. The Quesnell family would like to thank Judith Loischild, Stephanie Bergweiler and Mary's Meadow for the loving care they gave to Quentin. Services for Quentin will be private.
