TROY William J. Spellecy, 74, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 14, 2006 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after he became ill at home. Born on January 28, 1932 in Hornell, Steuben County, N.Y., Bill was a son of the late Francis and Mary Elizabeth McKernan Spellecy. He was raised in both Hornell and Rochester and was educated at St. Andrew's Seminary and later graduated from St. Bernard's Seminary, both in Rochester. Bill was ordained into the priesthood and served the Diocese of Rochester for 17 years as a parish priest and as field education director at St. Bernard's Seminary. He was married in 1976 to his beloved wife, Rosalie Saynay Spellecy and they resided in Chicago for several years where Bill was employed by the Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens and the Handicapped. Later, they relocated to Troy and Bill took employment with the New York State Office for the Aging in Albany where he worked for 26 years and retired as program manager. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy. Bill was the dear brother of Mary Elizabeth Fletcher of Hawaii, Francis Mack Spellecy and his wife Colleen of Waterloo, N.Y., the late Margaret Walsh whose husband Michael of Minn. survives and the late Jack Spellecy whose wife Lomani of Hornell survives. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill's family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Erie Avenue in Hornell, N.Y. and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
