Felkey, Leonard

felkeyLeonard Benjamin Michael Felkey, 87, Kokomo died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Waterford Health Campus. He was born April 30, 1925, in Toronto, Ohio, to Frank and Rose Felkey. He marred Maureen Ryan in June of 1970, who survives.. After 25 years of library service around Indiana, Leonard retired from the Kokomo Howard County Public Library in 1995. He wrote Books Along the Wildcat detailing the history of libraries in Howard County dating back to 1844. He received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Governor Evan Bayh in 1996. Leonard was a member of the Indiana Library Federation, the American Library Association and Saint Patrick Catholic Church. He received his Masters of Library Science from Indiana University, Bloomington.. Leonard is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Maureen Ryan Felkey; son, Paul Leonard (Angela) Felkey, Lafayette; daughter, Dawn Marie (David) Bass, Noblesville; four grandchildren, Connor and Hannah Felkey, and Caitlin and Chloe Bass; three brothers, Joseph Felkey, Richard (Goldie) Felkey and Daniel Felkey, all of Pennsylvania; as well as many nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Francis Yanni, Rose Marie Daniels, and Anna Felkey; as well as three brothers, John Felkey, Frank Felkey, and Theodore Felkey.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Patrick Catholic Church 1204 N. Armstrong St., with the Rev. Fr. Huemmer officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. scripture service at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home Lincoln Road Chapel 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Burial will follow the funeral services in South Union Cemetery.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Church, Samaritan Caregivers or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home.

Leonard was ordained for Franciscans in 1953 and made his transition 1969 and married Maureen, a former sister in 1970.  He joined CORPUS in 1975.
