REST IN PEACE

David A. Feighan, of Washington Township, passed away suddenly July 23, 2011 at his vacation home at Higgins Lake near Roscommon. He was 77.

A graduate of the University of Detroit and Sacred Heart Seminary, he was an ordained Roman Catholic priest. He spent eight years at St. Benedict's in Highland Park and later St. Lucy's Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. He eventually decided he wanted a family and left the priesthood to marry his wife, Patricia. Together, they had four children -- Michael, Anne, Maureen, and Molly.

David started a new career path at Macomb Community College. There, he spent roughly 20 years as an administrator and professor. Drawing on his background as a priest, he taught comparative religion for more than two decades, often lecturing that "there were many paths to God."

He also had a doctorate degree in counseling from Western Michigan University.

A people person and natural storyteller with rosy red cheeks and a contagious smile, Mr. Feighan took great pride in his Irish heritage. He was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hiberians, Solanus Casey Division, and marched nearly every year in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Detroit.

He loved sports, especially golf, tennis, skiing, and baseball. He followed the Detroit Tigers and Pistons with such fervor that his family often worried about his health. He was also an active member of the Mt. Clemens Ski Club.

As dearly as Dave will be missed, his family takes great comfort in knowing that he died at one of the places he loved most, Higgins Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; four children, Michael, Anne (Jeff Rodgers), Maureen (Joel Kurth), and Molly; seven grandchildren, Connor, Garrett, Jefferson, Jordan, Rosalie, Hope, and Oscar; and his siblings, Janice Bringard and Patrick Feighan.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, with a sharing service at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Clement of Rome, 343 S. Main, in Romeo.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Solanus Casey Division, 1780 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207, or the CdLS Foundation, 302 West Main Street #100, Avon, CT 06001.

David joined CORPUS in 1978.
