Barbara L. (nee Schroer) Corcoran, 90, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois for 47 years. She died peacefully in her home on Friday, December 8, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her beloved husband, David L. Corcoran of 50 years; loving mother of Thomas Corcoran, Christina Geisen (nee Corcoran), and Andrew Corcoran, loving mother-in-law of James Geisen, proud grandmother of Tiberius (Ty) and Sheena Geisen. She is survived by her sister, Lois (nee Schroer) Berger.
Barbara was born on May 12, 1933 in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Bernard Schroer and the late Lillian Cecelia (nee Wiseman) Schroer. She is preceded in death by her parents and four of her siblings; sister of the late Joseph B. Schroer Jr., the late Jean Ann (nee Schroer) Sheyer, the late Marilyn Schroer, the late Carol (nee Schroer) Cahalane.
Barbara entered the Religious Order of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1951, where she was nourished well in the spiritual life and given educational opportunities which lead to a Masters in Education. Her love for children was a source of dedication which motivated her to teach for 46 years. After retirement, Barbara volunteered at Misericordia Heart of Mercy Home, in Chicago, for children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities. Her son, Andrew Corcoran, is a ray of sunshine and lives at the amazing Misericordia Home.
The Visitation, Service and Luncheon will be held at Northwest Assembly of God Church, 900 N. Wolf Rd., Mt Prospect, Illinois 60056, on Monday, December 18, 2023.
