Kennedy, Raymond

11/03/04
West Sussex, England
Raymond, 78, died of cancer in West Sussex, England. Ray was a character larger than life, always ready to step into controversy of the moment and put his full energy therein. Ordained a Spiritan (formerly Holy Ghost) priest in 1954, he spent 15 years in Nigeria, as a pastor, diocesan newspaper editor, and supplier of medical aid and food during the Biafran War, 1967-1970.

For the next 18 years he minstered in his native Ireland, the United States, England and Bangladesh. In 1986 he decided to write a thesis on the ordination of women. In 1988 he married Jasmin, a Bangladeshi doctor, and they had two children. He then worked in Bangladesh and England with organizations with social and education programs that primarily benefited children.

May he rest in peace.
