John Joseph McCabe, 78, of Cohoes, died at home on Sunday, September 12, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Janice “Julie” Andres McCabe.

John was born in Queens, NY on November 2, 1931 to John and Mary Weinert McCabe. He graduated from Bishop Laughlin High School, St. Bonaventure College and the University of New Hampshire where he received his Masters Degree. John was ordained in 1948 as a Franciscan Friar.

John taught Philosophy at Siena College and St. Bonaventure. Later in his life he was the director of SPARC and ended his career at OASAS, retiring in 2000. John had been a resident of the Capital District for over 36 years.

In addition to his beloved wife Janice, John is survived by his cherished daughter and her husband, Kate and Richard Dargusch; a brother Raymond McCabe; a sister Margaret O’Reilly and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings; Michael McCabe, Dorothy Woods and Sr. Patrice McCabe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at Sienna College in Loudonville. Family and friends are invited and may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm. Interment will be private.
