Sacramento, CA James (Jim) Terence Mulligan, born June 3, 1923, died after a long struggle with Multiple Myeloma cancer on December 16, 2002. His parents, Terry and Madge Mulligan, and brothers, Jack and Teddy, preceded him in death. His father was Sacramento Fire Chief from 1941-1956. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Frances Ruiz Mulligan; his niece Judy Esola and her husband John; his nephew Terry Mulligan and his wife Elizabeth. He is also survived by two grand nephews and three grand nieces, many cousins in California, Ireland and New Zealand, and his dear sister-in-law Gloria Galindo, as well as long time friends Mary Williams and Jim Boock as well as many other close friends.
Jim and Frances also recall the wonderful and excellent care provided by Dr. Scott Wigginton, Dr. Melvin D. Flamm, Dr. David Harrison and Sutter Hospice. They also acknowledge David and Lois Warren, Brendan Horan and all the Nova members who have been so very helpful and supportive. Many thanks to their wonderful care giver for many years, Ledua.
Jim served as a Roman Catholic priest in the Diocese of Sacramento for 30 years before he moved from the clerical state to become a married priest. In the Sacramento Diocese he served in the Parish of Immaculate Conception, Sacramento; St. John's Parish, Folsom; St. Patrick's Parish, Angel's Camp; and, for thirteen years, as Director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese and Pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Clarksburg.
After moving from the clerical ranks, he became Director of the Sacramento Inner City Detoxification Center for seven years. He later served as Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program for the State Department of Social Services for twelve years. After retirement he became chaplain for Hospice Care of Sacramento and briefly for Sutter Hospice. During the nineteen eighties and on into the new century he was privileged to act as coordinator of the NOVA Married Priests group which is based in Sacramento.
