Dr. Joseph B. Ryan of Verona, NJ, 69, psychotherapist, Newark priest died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004

Dr. Ryan, maintained a psychotherapy practice in Montclair for many years. He also worked at the Catholic Community Services in Newark and the Family Service and Child Guidance Clinic in Orange.

Previously, he was a priest for the Archdiocese of Newark from 1960 to 1980 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark and the Newman House in Montclair, NJ

Dr. Ryan earned a bachelors degree in classical languages from SetonHall University, South Orange, and a doctorate in social work from Rutgers University in 1978.

Born in Orange, he lived in Montclair before moving to Verona 23 years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine; a son, Timothy J., and a sister, Leona Fagan.
