John M. Thompson, 84, of Narragansett died Saturday, August 22, 2015 at South County Hospital in South Kingstown.  He was the beloved husband of Deborah E. (Germain) Thompson.

Born in Pawtucket, John was a son of the late Malcolm and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Thompson.  He was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket and St. Jerome’s College in Canada.  John graduated from St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore and served the Diocese of Providence for seventeen years as a Roman Catholic Priest.  

John was employed as the Human Resource Director at Chickadee Farms in Woodville, RI.  John was an engaging volunteer.  He volunteered at Hospice Care of RI, the RI Food Bank and the McAuley House.  He was the Co-Director at the Gilbert Stuart Museum for eleven years and tutored elementary school students in North Kingstown.  John loved his work at the McAuley House and also mentored male immigrants at the Stedman Center in Wakefield.   He was truly a man of honor, who loved his God, his faith, family and friends with a strong and unconditional love.  

In addition to his beloved wife, John is survived by his cherished children:  Susan, Patricia, Deborah, David, Michael, Elizabeth and Hannah, fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son: Walter and his siblings:  Lois Barry, Dorothy Andrews, Betty Thompson, Edward Thompson, US Army who was killed at the Battle of the Bulge, and Joseph Thompson.
