RICHARD EUGENE STEINKAMP

Richard Eugene Steinkamp passed away peacefully on the morning of February 21, 2016 at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his wife Martha Steinkamp along with other family and friends.
Richard was born to Eugene and Katherine Steinkamp on May 3rd 1929 in Cincinnati, OH. He graduated Xavier University, served in the US Army Intelligence Corp during the Korean War and continued his education with the Glenmary Home Missionaries. He was ordained a priest shortly after, and ultimately became pastor of St. Charles Parish in Orlando Fl. and served as Director of Catholic Services.
Richard left the priesthood to attend to his mother and other family matters. It was during this period that he married his wife of 33 years, Martha Steinkamp. They lived together in Ft. Lauderdale until his passing. His life was dedicated to his family which included Albert de Plazaola and Martha Abbott (his stepson and stepdaughter) and to various Catholic causes. Richard is also survived by his brother Robert Steinkamp and extended family in Cincinnati and Phoenix.
Richard is remembered by all who knew him as a vibrant, generous, intelligent and active individual. Even into his 80's, Richard was a runner, a fisherman, and financial advisor to various Catholic churches in the area. His communicable smile and his sense of humor was, and continues to be his gift to all that were privileged to know him.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb 27 at 1:30, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, in North Lauderdale.
