Dr. Thomas D. Kraft, 77, of Warren, died at noon Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Cleveland MetroHealth following a long illness. He was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Massillon, the son of Edmund H. and Grace Dillon Kraft. He studied for the Catholic priesthood in seminaries at Notre Dame, Baltimore ad Cincinnati. He was ordained in 1959 and came to Niles St. Stephen's as assistant pastor in 1960. In 1965, he was appointed vice chancellor of the Diocese of Youngstown and director of the Family Life Bureau. He received a master's degree from Case Western University, Xavier University and the Athenaeum of Ohio. In 1971, he married the former Mary Grace Sloan and returned to the area after earning his doctoral degree from Kent State University in 1973. Dr. Kraft served as executive director of the Trumbull County Mental Health Board until 1978, when he entered into full time private practice as a clinical psychologist. Dr. Kraft was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Ohio Psychological Association. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and former member of Warren Rotary and the Trumbull Country Club. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing. He served on the staff of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Warren General Hospital. In addition, he also served as board member of various social service agencies in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
Dr. Kraft is survived by his wife, Mary Grace; daughter, Dr. Amy Kraft-Mistler and her husband, Stephen, of Tempe, Ariz. and one brother, Richard of Baltimore. Two brothers, Joseph and Edmund Jr., are deceased.


A memorial Mass celebrating Dr. Kraft's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Calling hours will be from 9-11 a.m. at the church. A dinner will follow after the Mass in social half. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Rd.
